Float Collar
Float Collar
The Ocean Sonics Float Collar is used when deploying from the sea bottom. It can be set to a known offset from the bottom using a known rope length.
Designed for the icListen hydrophone to fit inside, the float collar needs only 10kg to hold it in place.
Features & Benefits
- Provides Reliable Positive Buoyancy: Made from durable, DeepTec® foam that keeps hydrophones neutrally or positively buoyant for stable positioning.
- Custom-Fit Design: Precisely engineered to snugly fit around Ocean Sonics hydrophones without interfering with sensor operation.
- Protective Outer Shell: Hard outer casing protects the hydrophone from impacts, abrasion, and entanglement.
- Corrosion and UV Resistant: Suitable for long-term exposure to saltwater and sunlight without degradation.
- Streamlined Shape: Minimizes drag and turbulence, reducing flow noise interference during deployments.
- Acoustic Release Integration: Compatible with remote acoustic release systems for mid-water column positioning or easy retrieval in deepwater.
- Enhances Deployment Flexibility: Enables hydrophones to be suspended or floated at desired depths for optimal acoustic data collection.
- Easy Handling in the Field: Lightweight and easy to attach/detach, simplifying deployment logistics.
- Depth Rated: Capable of reaching depths of 1500m.

Deployment Example

This drawing illustrates the positioning of a float collar deployed at a fixed depth and a calculated distance from the acoustic buoy. The float collar is strategically anchored to remain stable in the water column and is placed far enough from the acoustic buoy to avoid interference with sound collection. This setup ensures optimal data quality by minimizing noise contamination from structural or mechanical components associated with the float collar.
